In my efforts to see and do everything New York has to offer within the span of a week, I (along with some fellow interns) decided to take on the cache of visual splendor that is the the New York Metropolitan Art Museum. We also went to the Guggenheim, but they won't let you take pictures.
onward!
The museum wanted a suggested donation to see the exhibits, a deep appreciation of the arts (as well as my lack of change) moved me to pay full price.
There is something deeply unsettling about African Art. Although I really like the way that pieces carved out of wood seem to pay respect to the natural shape of the wood from which they are hewn.
The first known artistic representation of the dance known in modern times as "The Solja Boy."
An intriguing series of works by the infamous painter, Roy G. Biv.
This is what the Luddites were worried about.
There was an awesome exhibit of Jeff Koons' sculptures on the roof, I like to think he was responsible for the awesome New York skyline as well.
My favorite piece of the day.
In the future, all birthday parties will be under the titanium paw of these colossal poodle balloons.
Photography was not allowed in the Guggenheim, which is too bad, because it is one of the most unique architectural structures I've ever visited. Walking up the spiralling ramp is like walking through a beehive that's been converted into a mental asylum.
I also ate a knish, it was knice.
